  • Electricity+Markets+Theories

Why did an electricity market emerge? How does it really work? What are the perfor- mance measures that WE can use to tell that the electricity market under consideration is WEll functioning? These are the questions that will be explored in this book. The main purpose of this book is to introduce the fundamental theories and concepts that underpintheelectricitymarketswhicharebasedonthreemajordisciplines:electrical poWEr engineering, economics, and optimization methods.

  • Internet+Data+Centers

With the proliferation of cloud computing and Internet online services, more and more data and computation are migrated to geographical distributed Internet data centers (IDCs), which can provide reliability, management, and cost benefits. HoWEver, IDC operators encounter several major problems in IDC operations, such as huge energy consumption and energy cost, and high carbon emission. To deal with the above problems, IDC operators have to efficiently manage the way of energy consumption and energy supply. Considering the potential of smart grid, WE focus on the energy management of IDCs in smart grid from several perspectives, i.e., poWEr outage, carbon emission, heterogeneous service delay guarantees, and operation risk.

  • Smart Grid Inspired Future Technologies

WE are very pleased to introduce the proceedings of the First EAI International Conference on Smart Grid Inspired Future Technologies (SmartGIFT 2016). This was the first SmartGIFT conference, aiming to create a forum for researches, developers, and practitioners from both academia and industry to publish their key results and to disseminate state-of-the-art concepts and techniques in all aspects of smart grids. The 37 scientific participants had many fruitful discussions and exchanges that contributed to the success of the conference. Participants from 12 countries made the conference truly international in scope.

  • Thin Film Metal-Oxides

This chapter surveys the high temperature and oxygen partial pressure behavior of complex oxide heterostructures as determined by in situ synchrotron X-ray methods. WE consider both growth and post-growth behavior, emphasizing the observation of structural and interfacial defects relevant to the size-dependent properties seen in these systems.

  • WBG+Materials+for+PoWEr+Electronics

stract With  global  drivers  such  as  better  energy consumption, energy efficiency and reduction of greenhouse gases, CO 2 emission reduction has become key in every layer of the value chain. PoWEr Electronics has definitely a role to play in these thrilling challenges. From converters down to compound semiconductors, innovation is leading to breakthrough technologies. Wide BandGap, PoWEr Module Packaging, growth of Electric Vehicle market will game change the overall poWEr electronic industry and supply chain. In this presentation WE  will  review  poWEr  electronics  trends,  from technologies to markets.

  • Advanced+Chipless+RFID

The author’s group has developed various chipless RFID tags and reader architectures at 2.45, 4–8, 24, and 60 GHz. These results WEre published extensively in the form of books, book chapters, refereed conference and journal articles, and finally, as patent applications. HoWEver, there is still room for improvement of chipless RFID sys- tems. In this book, WE proposed advanced techniques of chipless RFID systems that supersede their predecessors in signal processing, tag design, and reader architecture.

  • RFID+Essentials

LIKE SO MANY OTHERS , THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN BECAUSE WE COULDN ’ T FIND ONE LIKE IT . WE needed something to hand to all of those people who have come to us asking for “a good book to read on RFID.” When WE looked for candidates WE found some great books, but most WEre aimed at electrical engineers or top-level managers, with very little for those of us who are in betWEen. This book is for developers, system and software architects, and project managers, as WEll as students and professionals in all of the industries impacted by Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) who want to understand how this technology works. As the title suggests, this book is about RFID in general and not just the most recent developments; hoWEver, because so much is going on in the area of RFID for the supply chain and especially the Electronic Product Code (EPC), WE have devoted consider- able space to these topics. Regardless of the type of RFID work you may be doing, WE think you will find something useful here.

  • RFID-Enabled Sensor Design and Appications

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is gaining in popularity, especially as WE find ourselves in this communications age and headed towards a ubiquitous computing world. Automatic identification systems become an important aspect not just in today’s technology but also as part of our daily life. WE need RFID in our cars, transportation systems, access points, and even simple transactions; WE also acknowledge the need for RFID in our logistics systems, healthcare, and tracking and locating applications.

  • The RF in RFID

To a quantum mechanic the whole universe is one godawful big interacting wavefunction ? but to the rest of us, it’s a world full of separate and distinguishable objects that hurt us when WE kick them. At a few months of age, human children recognize objects, expect them to be permanent and move continuously, and display surprise when they aren’t or don’t. WE associate visual, tactile, and in some cases audible and olfactory sensations with identifiable physical things. WE’re hardwired to understand our environment as being composed of separable things with specific properties and locations. WE understand the world in terms of what was where when.
