  • Indoor Radio Planning A Practical Guide for GSM

This book is intended for the RF planners, to serve as a practical tool in their daily work designing indoor radio distribution systems. It is not a complete book about all the deep aspects and corners of GSM, DCS, UMTS and HSPA networks, or all the core network systems. It is dedicated to the last 10–70 m of the network, the indoor air interface between the mobile user and the indoor mobile network.

  • Introduction+to+RF+Propagation

With the rapid expansion of wireless consumer products, there has been a con- siderable increase in the need for radio-frequency (RF) planning, link plan- ning, and propagation modeling.A network designer with no RF background may find himself/herself designing a wireless network. A wide array of RF planning software packages can provide some support, but there is no substi- tute for a fundamental understanding of the propagation process and the lim- itations of the models employed. Blind use of computer-aided design (CAD) programs with no understanding of the physical fundamentals underlying the process can be a recipe for disaster. Having witnessed the results of this approach, I hope to spare others this frustration.

  • IP,+Ethernet+and+MPLS+Networks+

This book addresses two aspects of network operation quality; namely, resource management and fault management. Network operation quality is among the functions to be fulfilled in order to offer quality of service, QoS, to the end user. It is characterized by four parameters: – packet loss; – delay; – jitter, or the variation of delay over time; – availability. Resource management employs mechanisms that enable the first three parameters to be guaranteed or optimized. Fault management aims to ensure continuity of service.

Mobilenetworkoperatorswillmeetmanychallengesinthecomingyears.Itisexpectedthatthe numberofpeopleconnected,wirelineandwireless,willreachfivebillionby2015.Atthesame time, people use more wireless services and they expect similar user experience to what they can now get from fixed networks. Because of that we will see a hundred-fold increase in network traffic in the near future. At the same time markets are saturating and the revenue per bit is dropping.

  • Microwave+Transmission+Networks

Microwave radio network design is a subset of activities that constitute the overall transmission network design. Transmission networks are sometimes called transport networks, access networks, or connectivity networks. For many wireless carriers, microwave is becoming a popu- lar preference over wireline (leased lines) transport for many reasons, especially as microwave radio equipment costs decrease and installation becomes simpler. Low monthly operating costs can undercut those of typical single (and especially multiple) T1/E1 expenses, proving it to be more economical over the long term—usually two to four years. Network operators also like the fact that they can own and control microwave radio networks instead of relying on other service providers for network components.

  • MIMO+Wireless+Communications--

Wireless is one of the most rapidly developing technologies in our time, with dazzling new products and services emerging on an almost daily basis. These developments present enormous challenges for communications engineers, as the demand for increased wireless capacity grows explosively. Indeed, the discipline of wireless communications presents many challenges to designers that arise as a result of the demanding nature of the physical medium and the complexities in the dynamics of the underlying network.

  • Mobile Radio Network Design

Mobile radio networks have risen in prominence over the last few years, primarily by the rise in popularity of cellular phones. It is important to recognise however that mobile radio technology fulfils a far wider range of applications that meet the demands of the modern world. These include the networks that allow police and emergency services to serve the public, military networks for operations and humanitarian support, and the mobile technol- ogies that are vital to the safety of aircraft.

  • Modeling and Tools for Network Simulation

In general there are three different techniques for performance evaluation of systems and networks: mathematical analysis, measurements, and computer simulation. All these techniques have their strength and weaknesses. In the literature there are plenty of discussions about when to use which technique, how to apply it, and which pitfalls are related to which evaluation technique.

  • Modeling+and+Analysis+of+Telecommunications

The insinuation of telecommunications into the daily fabric of our lives has been arguably the most important and surprising development of the last 25 years. Before this revolution, telephone service and its place in our lives had been largely stable for more than a generation. The growth was, so to speak, lateral, as the global reach of telecommunications extended and more people got telephone service. The distinction between oversea and domestic calls blurred with the advances in switching and transmission, undersea cable, and communication satellites. Traffic on the network remained overwhelmingly voice, largely in analog format with facsimile (Fax) beginning to make inroads.
