Improved guaranteed cost control and quantum adaptive control are developed in this study for a quadrotor helicopter with state delay and actuator faults. Improved guaranteed cost control is designed to eliminate disturbance effects and guarantee the robust stability of a quadrotor helicopter with state delay. The inapplicability of guaranteed cost control to the quadrotor linear model is addressed by combining guaranteed cost control with a model reference linear quadratic regulator. In the event of actuator faults, quadrotor tracking performance is maintained through quantum adaptive control. Finally, the availability of the proposed scheme is verified through numerical SimulATion

The genesis for this book was my involvement with the development of the SystemView (now SystemVue) SimulATion program at Elanix, Inc. Over several years of development, technical support, and seminars, several issues kept recur- ring. One common question was, “How do you simulate (such and such)?” The sec- ond set of issues was based on modern communication systems, and why particular developers did what they did. This book is an attempt to gather these issues into a single comprehensive source.

The family of recent wireless standards included the optional employment of MIMO tyechniques. This was motivated by the observation according to the classic Shannon-Hartley law the achiev- able channel capacity increases logarithmically with the transmit power. By contrast, the MIMO capacity increases linearly with the number of transmit antennas, provided that the number of receive antennas is equal to the number of transmit antennas.

Modeling and SimulATion of nonlinear systems provide communication system designers with a tool to predict and verify overall system performance under nonlinearity and complex communication signals. Traditionally, RF system designers use deterministic signals (discrete tones), which can be implemented in circuit simulators, to predict the performance of their nonlinear circuits/systems. However, RF system designers are usually faced with the problem of predicting system performance when the input to the system is real-world communication signals which have a random nature.

This book is a result of the recent rapid advances in two related technologies: com- munications and computers. Over the past few decades, communication systems have increased in complexity to the point where system design and performance analysis can no longer be conducted without a significant level of computer sup- port. Many of the communication systems of fifty years ago were either power or noise limited. A significant degrading effect in many of these systems was thermal noise, which was modeled using the additive Gaussian noise channel.

The goal of this book is to introduce the SimulATion methods necessary to describe the behaviour of semiconductor devices during an electrostatic discharge (ESD). The challenge of this task is the correct description of semiconductor devices under very high current density and high temperature transients. As it stands, the book can be no more than a snapshot and a summary of the research in this field during the past few years. The authors hope that the book will provide the basis for further development of SimulATion methods at this current frontier of device physics.

As we enter the next millennium, there are clear technological patterns. First, the electronic industry continues to scale microelectronic structures to achieve faster devices, new devices, or more per unit area. Secondly, electrostatic charge, electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical overstress (EOS) and electromagnetic emissions (EMI) continue to be a threat to these scaled structures. This dichotomy presents a dilemma for the scaling of semiconductor technologies and a future threat to new technologies. Technological advancements, material changes, design techniques, and SimulATion can fend off this growing concern – but to maintain this ever-threatening challenge, one must continue to establish research and education in this issue.

Battery systems for energy storage are among the most relevant technologies of the 21 st century. They – in particular modern lithium-ion batteries (LIB) – are enablers for the market success of electric vehicles (EV) as well as for stationary energy storage solutions for balancing fluctuations in electricity grids resulting from the integrationofrenewableenergysourceswithvolatilesupply 1 .BothEVandstationary storage solutions are important because they foster the transition from the usage of fossil energy carriers towards cleaner renewable energy sources. Furthermore, EV cause less local air pollution and noise emissions compared to conventional combustion engine vehicles resulting in better air quality especially in urban areas. Unfortunately, to this day, various technological and economic challenges impede a broad application of batteries for EV as well as for large scale energy storage and load leveling in electricity grids.

The continuous progress in modern power device technology is increasingly supported by power-specific modeling methodologies and dedicated SimulATion tools. These enable the detailed analysis of operational principles on the the device and on the system level; in particular, they allow the designer to perform trade- off studies by investigating the operation of competing design variants in a very early stage of the development process. Furthermore, using predictive computer SimulATion makes it possible to analyze the device and system behavior not only under regularoperatingconditions, but also at the rim of the safe-operatingarea and beyond of it, where destructive processes occur that limit the lifetime of a power system.
