This paper shows the development of a 1024-point radix-4 FFT VHDL core for applications in hardware signal processing, targeting low-cost FPGA technologies. The developed core is targeted into a Xilinx庐 Spartan鈩?3 XC3S200 FPGA with the inclusion of a VGA display interface and an external 16-bit data Acquisition system for performance evaluation purposes. Several tests were performed in order to verify FFT core functionality, besides the time performance analysis highlights the core advantages over commercially available DSPs and Pentium-based PCs. The core is compared with similar third party IP cores targeting resourceful FPGA technologies. The novelty of this work is to provide a lowcost, resource efficient core for spectrum analysis applications.

In the last decade the processing of polygonal meshes has emerged as an active and very productive research area. This can basically be attributed to two developments: Modern geometry Acquisition devices, like laser scanners and MRT, easily produce raw polygonal meshes of ever growing complexity Downstream applications like analysis tools (medical imaging), computer aided manufacturing, or numerical simulations all require high quality polygonal meshes as input. The need to bridge the gap between raw triangle soup data and high-quality polygon meshes has driven the research on ecient data structures and algorithms that directly operate on polygonal meshes rather than on a (most often not feasible) intermediate CAD representation.

This report presents a tutorial of fundamental array processing and beamforming theory relevant to microphone array speech processing. A microphone array consists of multiple microphones placed at different spatial locations. Built upon a knowledge of sound propagation principles, the multiple inputs can be manipulated to enhance or attenuate signals emanating from particular directions. In this way, microphone arrays provide a means of enhancing a desired signal in the presence of corrupting noise sources. Moreover, this enhancement is based purely on knowledge of the source location, and so microphone array techniques are applicable to a wide variety of noise types. Microphone arrays have great potential in practical applications of speech processing, due to their ability to provide both noise robustness and hands-free signal Acquisition.
