This demonstration illustrates the application of adaptive filters to signal separation using a structure called an adaptive line enhancer (ALE). In adaptive line enhancement, a measured signal x(n) contains two signals, an unknown signal of interest v(n), and a nearly-periodic noise signal eta(n). The goal is to remove the noise signal from the measured signal to obtain the signal of interest.

JLAB is a set of Matlab functions I have written or co-written over the past fifteen years for the purpose of analyzing data. It consists of four hundred m-files spanning thirty thousand lines of code. JLAB includes functions ranging in complexity from one-line aliases to high-level algorithms for certain specialized tasks. These have been collected together and made publicly available for you to use, modify, and --- subject to certain very reasonable constraints --- to redistribute. Some of the highlights are: a suite of functions for the rapid manipulation of multi-component, potentially multi-dimensional datasets a systematic way of dealing with datasets having components of non-uniform length tools for fine-tuning figures using compact, straightforward statements and specialized functions for spectral and time / frequency analysis, including advanced wavelet algorithms developed by myself and collaborators.

MATFOR FFT Visual Fortran program. MATFOR Extensions, as implied in the name, are data or components external to MATFOR modules that can be used to add versatility to MATFOR programs. Currently there are two types of extensions available with MATFOR, they are MATLAB Interface and Tecplot FileIO. MATLAB Interface, a new feature in MATFOR 4.1, provides MATFOR users access to MATLAB functions so they can obtain functionality that has not been built into MATFOR. In particular, particle swarm optimization, also commonly known as PSO, mimics the behavior of a swarm of insects or a school of fish. If one of the particle discovers a good path to food the rest of the swarm will be able to follow instantly even if they are far away in the swarm. Swarm behavior is modeled by particles in multidimensional space that have two characteristics: a position and a velocity. These particles wander around the hyperspace and remember the best position that they have discovered. They communicate good positions to each other and adjust their own position and velocity based on these good positions.

This application report presents basic code for initializing and operating the TMS320LF240x DSP devices. Two functionally equivalent example progra ms are presented: one written in assembly language and the other in C language. Detailed discussions of each program are provided that explain numerous compiler and assembler directives, code requirements, and hardware-related requirements.
