This paper presents a low-Power asynchronous implementation of the 80C51 microcontroller. It was realized in a 0.5 µ m CMOS process and it shows a power advantage of a factor 4 compared to a recent synchronous implementation in the same technology. The chip is fully bit compatible with the synchronous implementation, and timing compatible for external memory access. The circuit is a compiled VLSI-program, using Tangram as VLSI-programming language and the Tangram tool set to compile the design automatically to a standard-cell netlist. This design approach proves to be powerful enough to describe the microcontroller and derive an efficient implementation. Further, it offers the designer the possibility to explore various alternatives in the design space.

Booth教授提出了一種名為radix-2 Booth演算法,演算法原理是在LSB前一個位元補上“0”,再由LSB至MSB以每兩個位元為一個Group,而下一個Group的LSB會與上一個Group的MSB重疊(overlap),Group中的位元。 Booth編碼表進行編碼(Booth Encoding)後再產生部分乘積進而得到最後的結果。 Radix-2 Booth演算法在1961年由O. L. Macsorley教授改良後,提出了radix-4 Booth演算法(modified Booth algorithm),此演算法的差異為Group所涵括的位元由原先的2個位元變為3個位元。

The MAX481E, MAX483E, MAX485E, MAX487E–MAX491E, and MAX1487E are low-Power transceivers for RS-485 and RS-422 communications in harsh environments. Each driver output and receiver input is protected against ±15kV electrostatic discharge (ESD) shocks, without latchup. These parts contain one driver and one receiver. The MAX483E, MAX487E, MAX488E, and MAX489E feature reduced slewrate drivers that minimize EMI and reduce reflections caused by improperly terminated cables, thus allowing error-free data transmission up to 250kbps. The driver slew rates of the MAX481E, MAX485E, MAX490E, MAX491E, and MAX1487E are not limited, allowing them to transmit up to 2.5Mbps.

The SP486 and SP487 are low–power quad differential line drivers meeting RS-485 and RS-422 standards. The SP486 features a common driver enable control the SP487 provides independent driver enable controls for each pair of drivers. Both feature tri–state outputs and wide common–mode input range.
