The module LSQ is for unconstrained linear least-squares fitting. It is based upon Applied Statistics algorithm AS 274 (see comments at the start of the module). A planar-rotation algorithm is used to update the QR- factorization. This makes it suitable for updating regressions as more data become available. The module contains a test for singularities which is simpler and quicker than calculating the singular-value decomposition. An important feature of the algorithm is that it does not square the condition number. The matrix X X is not formed. Hence it is suitable for ill- conditioned problems, such as fitting polynomials. By taking advantage of the MODULE facility, it has been possible to remove many of the arguments to routines. Apart from the new function VARPRD, and a back-substitution routine BKSUB2 which it calls, the routines behave as in AS 274.

This a very simple Yee algorithm 3D FDTD code in C implementing the free space form of Maxwell s equations on a Cartesian grid. There are no internal materials or geometry. The code as delivered simulates an idealized rectangular waveguide by treating the interior of the mesh as free space/air and enforcing PEC (Perfect Electric Conductor) conditions on the faces of the mesh.

The Staged Event-Driven Architecture (SEDA) is a new design for building scalable Internet services. SEDA has three major goals: To support massive concurrency, on the order of tens of thousands of clients per node To exhibit robust performance under wide variations in load and, To simplify the design of complex Internet services. SEDA decomposes a complex, event-driven application into a set of stages connected by queues. This design avoids the high overhead associated with thread-based concurrency models, and decouples event and thread scheduling from application logic. SEDA enables services to be well-conditioned to load, preventing resources from being overcommitted when demand exceeds service capacity. Decomposing services into a set of stages also enables modularity and code reuse, as well as the development of debugging tools for complex event-driven applications.

Scotia Airlines is a new budget airline operating between Glasgow Airport and the Western Isles. It operates two 24-seater light passenger aircraft and requires a flight booking system. Because Scotia offers low cost air travel, there is a need to treat each flight as single cost centre and to be able to ascertain, at any moment, the amount of the cash taken for that flight. Reservations and bookings cannot be made until the flight details have been finalised (flight number, departure and arrival airports). A seat on a flight is considered booked when payment as been received for it. When a reservation is confirmed (changed to booked), the passenger name is checked against the original reservation. This a very simple baseband simulator for SC-FDMA system. This simulator is part of the upcoming book “Single Carrier FDMA: A New Air Interface for Long Term Evolution” (Wiley, Nov. 2008) which I co-authored with professor David J. Goodman at Polytechnic University. The purpose of this simulator is to give some concrete idea of how SC-FDMA system works. It does lack many realistic and sophisticated features such as channel coding, time-varying fading channel model, soft decision decoding, etc. Regardless, I am hoping that it will help you understand SC-FDMA which is a fairly new development in 3GPP LTE.
