Boost provides free peer-revieWEd portable C++ source libraries. WE emphasize libraries that work WEll with the C++ Standard Library. Boost libraries are intended to be widely useful, and usable across a broad spectrum of applications. The Boost license encourages both commercial and non-commercial use. WE aim to establish "existing practice" and provide reference implementations so that Boost libraries are suitable for eventual standardization. Ten Boost libraries are already included in the C++ Standards Committee s Library Technical Report (TR1) as a step toward becoming part of a future C++ Standard. More Boost libraries are proposed for the upcoming TR2. Boost works on almost any modern operating system, including UNIX and Windows variants. Follow the Getting Started Guide to download and install Boost. Popular Linux and Unix distributions such as Fedora, Debian, and NetBSD include pre-built Boost packages. Boost may also already be available on your organization s internal WEb server.

WE address the problem of predicting a word from previous words in a sample of text. In particular, WE discuss n-gram models based on classes of words. WE also discuss several statistical algorithms for assigning words to classes based on the frequency of their co-occurrence with other words. WE find that WE are able to extract classes that have the flavor of either syntactically based groupings or semantically based groupings, depending on the nature of the underlying statistics.

In this paper, WE describe the development of a rapidly reconfigurable system in which the users’ tacit knowledge and requirements are elicited via a process of Interactive Evolution, finding the image processing parameters to achieve the required goals without any need for specialised knowledge of the machine vision system. WE show that the resulting segmentation can be quickly and easily evolved from scratch, and achieves detection rates comparable to those of a hand-tuned system on a hot-rolled steel defect recognition problem.
