Gnu

Gnu是一个操作系统，其内容软件完全以GPL方式发布。这个操作系统是Gnu计划的主要目标，名称来自Gnu'sNotUnix!的递归缩写，因为Gnu的设计类似Unix，但它不包含具著作权的Unix代码。Gnu的创始人，理查德·马修·斯托曼，将Gnu视为“达成社会目的技术方法”。

Tokyo Cabinet的Tokyo Cabinet 是一个DBM的实现。这里的数据库由一系列key-value对的记录构成。key和value都可以是任意长度的字节序列,既可以是二进制也可以是字符串。这里没有数据类型和数据表的概念。作者叫Mikio Hirabayashi.Tokyo Cabinet是用C写的，同时提供c,perl,ruby,java的API。Tokyo Cabinet在提供了POSIX和C99的平台上都可用，它以Gnu Lesser Public License协议发布。

本人在阅读Linux源代码过程中发现如果要全面了解Linux的结构、理解Linux的编程总体设计及思想必须首先全部读通Linux源代码中各级的Makefile文件。目前，在网上虽然有一些著作，但都不能全面的解释Linux源代码中各级的Makefile文件，因此本人认真阅读了Gnu Make 使用手册（3.79）版原文，在此基础上翻译了该手册，以满足对Linux源代码有兴趣或者希望采用GCC编写程序但对缺乏Gnu Make全面了解之人士的需要。
