This is a little console mode utility program which is able to (de-)compress single files with a static ARITHMETIC compression algorithm. You could easily add the RLE/BWT/MFT data transformation algorithms. Just rip the corresponding classes out of my HuffComp source code. I won t add these ones in the next time.

Two functions, num2bin and bin2num are provided. num2bin takes a double and converts it to a binary string representation. bin2num is its inverse operation. It can be used in a numerical analysis course when floating point ARITHMETIC is discussed.

Verilog HDL: Magnitude For a vector (a,b), the magnitude representation is the following: A common approach to implementing these ARITHMETIC functions is to use the Coordinate Rotation Digital Computer (CORDIC) algorithm. The CORDIC algorithm calculates the trigonometric functions of sine, cosine, magnitude, and phase using an iterative process. It is made up of a series of micro-rotations of the vector by a set of predetermined constants, which are powers of two. Using binary ARITHMETIC, this algorithm essentially replaces multipliers with shift and add operations. In a Stratix™ device, it is possible to calculate some of these ARITHMETIC functions directly, without having to implement the CORDIC algorithm.

The Joint Video Team (JVT) of ISO/IEC MPEG and ITU-T VCEG are finalising a new standard for the coding (compression) of natural video images. The new standard [1] will be known as H.264 and also MPEG-4 Part 10, “Advanced Video Coding”. The standard specifies two types of entropy coding: Context-based Adaptive Binary ARITHMETIC Coding (CABAC) and Variable-Length Coding (VLC). This document provides a short introduction to CABAC. Familiarity with the concept of ARITHMETIC Coding is assumed.
